The former Suits actress and non-working royal has fuelled speculation that she is expanding into beauty with a recent social media post

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, could be the latest celebrity to launch her own beauty brand.

In a post on Instagram, the former Suits actress and wife of Prince Harry was spotted applying a lipstick which has no obvious branding, fueling speculation that it is from a line of her own creation.

A table of make-up products can also be seen in the video, showing a variety of items without any brand names, including several compact-style products.

Earlier this year, the Duchess of Sussex debuted her lifestyle brand, As Ever, coinciding with the premier of her Netflix television show With Love, Meghan.

Products she currently sells on a dedicated website in the US include jams, teas and wine.

According to filings with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), cosmetics is one of the several goods and services included in As Ever’s trademark application.

Speaking at the ‘Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit’ in Washington DC, US, last week, Markle “hinted more tactile products could be in the mix in future”, according to Fortune’s report on her talk.

The Duchess of Sussex said earlier this year in her podcast Confessions of a Female Founder that she planned to announce new product launches in the first quarter of 2026.

The latest hint at what might be next comes shortly after Markle made a surprise appearance at Paris Fashion Week, attending designer Pierpaolo Piccioli’s debut collection for Balenciaga.

In a post on Instagram, the Duchess shared a short clip of her visit that included getting ready for the event with make-up artist Daniel Martin, who showed a selection of Tom Ford lipsticks.

It is not the first time that rumours have surfaced of a potential move by Markle into the beauty business.

In 2021, the 44-year-old made a number of visits to the estate of Bill Guthy, the beauty marketing executive of Guthy-Renker, which has been involved in a number of celebrity beauty brands.

Famous faces are behind some of the world’s top beauty brands, including Hailey Bieber’s Rhode which sold to e.l.f. Beauty for US$1bn this year, Rhianna’s Fenty Beauty and Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty.

Gomez, who is also an actress and singer, appeared at the same Fortune event as the Duchess last week discussing entrepreneurship.

The trend of celebrity-backed brand launches shows no signs of slowing down..

Singer Shakira launched hair care brand Isima in June, which is aimed at improving hair and scalp health.

Actress Lindsay Lohan revealed that she is working on a skin care line..

Entrepreneur Paris Hilton recently debuted her skin care line, Parívie, a five-step regimen designed for people with busy lifestyles.

Actress Chloë Grace Moretz and singer Rina Sawayama also co-founded new beauty brand, Godmode.

However, some celebrity-founded brands have failed to take off.

Kate Moss’ skin care and wellness-focused brand Cosmoss entered liquidation over the summer.

Kim Kardashian also closed her beauty brand SKKN by Kim this year after buying it back from Coty, but has said that a new line will launch under her Skims brand next year.
