K18’s FutureIQ Biomimetic Hair Longevity Serum claims to ‘support the scalp environment before visible signs of ageing appear’, using MultiVital technology to support oxidative defense, follicle anchoring, pigmentation and scalp resilience

K18 is entering the hair longevity category with a £110 biology-first serum that encompasses a multi-pathway system to address premature hair ageing – pitched as the brand’s most “significant” innovation in recent years.

The Unilever-owned brand’s FutureIQ Biomimetic Hair Longevity Serum claims to target premature hair ageing caused by everyday lifestyle stressors, which can contribute to thinning, shedding, early greying and scalp ageing.

It represents a shift in direction from correction to preservation, utilising new proprietary MultiVital technology to address interconnected biological drivers simultaneously to support oxidative defense, follicle anchoring, pigmentation and scalp resilience.

FutureIQ Biomimetic Hair Longevity Serum is K18’s biggest launch since Leave-In Molecular Repair Hair Mask, powered by “breakthrough” biotechnology and backed by ten pending patents.

“FutureIQ is our way of bringing longevity science to hair care by helping support the scalp environment before visible signs of ageing appear,” Rita El-khouri, SVP Research & Innovation​ at K18, told Cosmetics Business.

“When we think about hair ageing, we are really looking at three visible signs: increased shedding, premature greying and changes in scalp health.

Hair longevity is gaining traction in beauty at the moment as brands and consumers alike adopt a more proactive approach to hair health.

El-khouri explained that longevity science’s reframing of ageing not as one fixed clock, but as a set of shared biological drivers – oxidative stress, cellular senescence, slowing stem cells, chronic inflammation – inspired K18’s new launch. 

“Crucially, these drivers can be accelerated: environmental and lifestyle stressors push the scalp to age faster than it should,” said El-khouri.

“That is premature ageing, and unlike chronological time, it is something we can act on.”

El-khouri explained that hair and scalp ages by these same rules, and within the follicle, the drivers that “quietly” connect three things are usually treated in isolation – cells behind pigment, signals that govern growth and shedding, and the barrier that keeps the environment calm.

“They share one ecosystem,” said El-khouri, “so what stresses one rarely stays contained, and premature greying, increased shedding and a compromised barrier are often the same underlying story.”

How does K18’s FutureIQ Biomimetic Hair Longevity Serum work?

K18 said premature hair ageing is driven by oxidative stress from factors including chemical processing, pollution, stress, poor nutrition, lack of sleep and hormonal changes. 

The hair care brand’s MultiVital technology is a multi-pathway system designed to address these drivers of premature hair ageing at once to defend against the oxidative stress that ages it ahead of its time. 

By supporting natural pigmentation, it can help with fibre anchoring and support the scalp barrier, protecting the environment where healthy hair begins.

“FutureIQ works on the conditions that help hair age better,” said El-khouri.

“Through biomimetic science, our multi-pathway MultiVital technology addresses the underlying drivers of premature hair ageing rather than its surface symptoms, built on a simple principle: a healthier scalp today supports healthier-looking hair tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, biomimetic peptides, a root anchoring complex and advanced antioxidants work together to help reduce the breakdown of root proteins that hold hair in place, claimed K18, supporting the signaling involved in melanin synthesis and transport.

This is also said to amplify hair follicles' natural defenses against oxidative stress to help protect the scalp.

In a third-party blinded clinical study, participants saw less hair fall within the first month of using K18’s FutureIQ Biomimetic Hair Longevity Serum, increased hair density by month two, and retained up to 19,000 more hairs after 90 days. 

They also saw up to 70% fewer visible greys with consistent use over three months.
