The pair will work together to accelerate next-generation product performance and consumer experience.
The new agreement follows a 45-year partnership between the two companies, but marks a “milestone” as it enters a “new phase of co-invested and technology-led collaboration to deliver innovation, resilience, competitiveness and growth,” Unilever said in a company statement.
Unilever and Galaxy Surfactants have already worked together on the performance-enhancing reformulations of Dove body wash and Lifebuoy soap.
The manufacturer’s powder surfactant capabilities have also driven the development of Unilever’s powder-to-liquid handwash formats.
Under the new agreement, the partnership will prioritise innovation and product superiority – “accelerating new chemistries that can deliver differentiated product performance and superior consumer experience”.
Future supply resilience and growth capacity will also form part of the partnership, including exploring bio-based alternatives and lower-carbon technologies, as well as investing in strategic capacity and long-term planning.
The pair will also focus on value chain innovation to boost competitiveness through closer collaboration.
“The signing of the partnership growth charter with Galaxy [Surfactants] marks a joint commitment to unlocking innovation to grow our home care, personal care, and beauty & wellbeing business groups,” said Shailendra Sadera, Chief Procurement Officer at Unilever.

Commenting on the partnership, K. Natarajan, MD at Galaxy Surfactants, said: “Our relationship with Unilever has been built over more than 45 years on a foundation of trust, shared values and a common pursuit of excellence.
“As markets, technologies and consumer expectations continue to evolve, enduring partnerships become even more important in driving meaningful progress.
