Beauty remains a standout performer in a challenging retail landscape in the UK. But the industry is not resting on its laurels.
Novel concepts and boutique stores from the likes of Sephora, Boots, and The Perfume Shop are arriving on high streets across the country.
Sephora’s first-ever boutique store concept is set to debut this summer with locations in Carnaby Street and Old Spitalfields Market, London, and the LVMH-owned retailer is plotting further roll-out across other regions in the coming years.

Boots is set to bring its beauty-only concept store to the city of Bristol, following the success of its first location in Battersea, London, which opened in 2023.
The health and beauty retailer also debuted its first-ever fragrance-only boutique in Broadgate, London, last autumn.
Meanwhile, The Perfume Shop debuted a premium boutique last autumn, and further locations featuring the concept have since followed.
Despite beauty being in fairly rude health compared to other retail sectors, the pace of change, competition and economic pressures on consumers are keeping these chains on their toes.
Consumer expectations have evolved
“Consumer demand is very soft and retailers are having to run faster simply to stand still,” says retail analyst Richard Hyman.
“Simply opening a store is no guarantee of economic success, as it perhaps was once back when our economy was stronger.
