Ulta Beauty has been hit with a class action lawsuit over the company's alleged use of 'session replay' software on its website.
The keystroke tracking software provides the user with the ability to replay a visitor's journey on a web site or within a mobile application or web application.
This can include the user's view, user input and logs of network events.
The use of the software violation of the California Invasion of Privacy Act and the federal Wiretap Act.
'Session replay' has faced controversy due to the potential risks it poses to internet privacy.
The complaint was brought by the Law Office of Daniel G. Shay and the Swigart Law Group.
It forms part of a wave of cases focusing on the web tracking technology which surreptitiously intercepts users' data and communications.
The lawsuit was filed at the California Southern District Court.
Cosmetics Business has contacted Ulta Beauty for more information.
