Hyaluronic acid (HA) is one of the well-known skin components as a moisturizing factor. It is also known as relating to skin softness, resilience and viscosity. But how about the relation with the strength of ECM structure?
Dermal HA which holds lots of water helps maintain extracellular matrix structure effectively. Past study shows that a small amount of skin HA is correlated with skin sagging index and wrinkle depth. Unfortunately, The amount of HA decreases with aging. It is known that HA loss is caused by hyaluronidase HYAL1/2. But recent studies revealed, in the dermis, HA is mainly degraded by HYBID, the novel HA cleavage enzyme. The expression level of HYBID is correlated with skin sagging and wrinkle.
ICHIMARU PHARCOS searched for a material that inhibits the expression of HYBID in fibroblasts and found that an extract of Artemisia capillaris flowers had this effect, and launched the natural cosmetic ingredient “HyaluGuard”. HyaluGuard inhibits the degradation of HA in fibroblasts and works to reduce skin sagging and wrinkle.
