A go-to ingredient for professional athletes and occasional gym-goers alike, electrolytes are well-known for helping to revive dehydrated bodies and ease cramped muscles.

But now the sports drink mineral is proving to be a power player for skin care brands keen to incorporate it into their athleisure beauty launches.

According to electrolyte advocates, minerals – including sodium, calcium, potassium, zinc and magnesium – can boost standard moisturisers by working with skin cells to generate energy and regulate the complexion’s water levels.

The result is said to be a dewy glow that is protected against drying winter air, or a replenishing topical option for dehydrated gym-goers that have lost vital electrolytes during a workout. But hungover consumers can also benefit, incorporating the ingredient the morning after the night before to soothe parched skin.
