Lancôme has become the latest beauty name to dabble in the art world.
The L’Oréal-owned luxury brand is unveiling a skin care and make-up collection in partnership with Paris’ Louvre Museum.
The Lancôme x Louvre line is said to be inspired by nine masterpieces from the museum’s sculpture department, as well as the lights and colours of the museum.
Lancôme’s Make-Up Creative Director Lisa Eldridge was specifically influenced by the Venus de Milo, Victory of Samothrace, Corine, Diana of Gabies, Nymph with the Scorpion, Echo, Hygeia, Venus of Arles and Hermaphrodite sculptures.
“The history of art and beauty, of its ‘making’ and its quest, are intimately linked,” said Laurence des Cars, the Louvre’s President and Director.
“The collections of the Louvre Museum are astonishing and captivating in that they allow us to read and understand how its canons are transformed, interpreted and evolved.
“With this collaboration, the Louvre, a contemporary place of art, participates in this writing of beauty in the present.”

The CEO of Lancôme International, Françoise Lehmann, said the collaboration would “open up new perspectives in terms of beauty for the women of today from our artistic heritage”.
A campaign, shot at the Louvre, features Lancôme brand ambassadors Zendaya, Aya Nakamura, Amanda Seyfried and He Cong.
The launch of Lancôme x Louvre follows recent crossovers between the worlds of beauty (specifically perfumery) and art.
Guerlain joined forces with Maison Matisse for a limited edition scent, Jasmin Bonheur, reflecting Henri Matisse’s work, Les Mille et Une Nuits.
While Floral Street’s latest launch in its four year partnership with the Van Gogh Museum is Sweet Almond Blossom perfume, inspired by the artist’s Almond Blossom masterpiece.
