The EU's scientific committee on consumer products has launched a probe into the safety of five hair dyes. They are: 2-chloro-p-phenylenediamine and its salts; 2,4-diaminophenoxyethanol dihydrochloride; 2,4-diaminophenoxyethanol sulphate; 2,6-diaminopyridine; and acid red 52. The committee will review the adequacy of existing maximum concentration rules and whether fresh restrictions should be recommended. The committee has also launched a similar inquiry into the safety of using oakmoss/treemoss extracts within cosmetics, where they are used as a fragrance.
