Beauty Industry Group (BIG) has appointed former Vegamour executive Robert Schaeffler as CEO.
Schaeffler will be responsible for leading the hair solution company’s next chapter of growth and increasing its market penetration.
BIG, founded in 2004, owns several hair extension and hair care brands, including Halocouture, Bellami and Beauty Works.
The company was acquired by private equity firm L Catterton in 2021.
“I am thrilled to work with the team to… extend its leadership position in one of the most attractive, high-growth and underserved segments within the beauty industry," said Schaeffler.
"The hair extensions category sits at an inflection point and is poised for accelerated growth as consumers across all demographics are increasingly seeking out extensions.”
Schaeffler has an 18-year history of leading beauty brands, most recently serving as CEO of holistic hair care range Vegamour.
Prior to this Schaeffler was CEO of curly hair brand DevaCurl, where he has been attributed to boosting revenue, culminating in its sale to Henkel in 2019.
He has also worked as GM of Henkel Professional North America, managing hair care brands Sexy Hair and Kenra Professional.
Schaeffler succeeds Derrick Porter, who is joining the company's board of directors after 18 years at the helm.
“We are thrilled to have Robert join as BIG continues to pursue the massive whitespace and numerous exciting growth opportunities within hair extensions and the broader hair care category,” said Avik Pramanik, a Partner at L Catterton.
BIG supplies more than 30,000 salons across 165 countries and distributes its products to more than 1,300 stores throughout the US.
L Catterton has been expanding its beauty portfolio of late, acquiring Naomi Watts’ menopause brand Stripes Beauty.
The firm has also snapped up a majority stake in Italian cosmetics brand Kiko Milano.
