Amazon will start delivering packages in the UK via drone for the first time.
Prime Air, which is currently only available in the US, will be available to consumers based in the UK and Italy by late 2024.
The drones are capable of delivering lightweight household essentials such as batteries, but also beauty and healthcare products.
“We are working closely with national regulators and international regulators, and communities in the EU, Italy, the UK, and the US, to develop this program,” Amazon said in a statement.
“We have committed the necessary time and resources to build a safe and scalable service.”
It comes after Amazon revealed its new MK30 drone model, which is lighter, smaller and features propellers with reduced noise.
The company claims it can fly twice as far as its previous MK27 drone, as well as being better suited to operate in more diverse weather conditions such as light rain.
“With the MK30, Amazon is making faster and safer drone delivery possible,” the company added.
“Our vision is to develop drones that can fly thousands of times and deliver millions of packages annually.”
The news was announced at the ecommerce goliath’s Delivering the Future event, which took place at a fulfilment centre and innovation lab near Seattle, Washington.
Amazon first revealed plans for drone deliveries in 2013.
