Beauty tech provider YouCam Makeup has launched three augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI) applications for Chinese social media platform WeChat.
WeChat merchants will now be able to offer users YouCam Makeup’s Virtual Makeup Try-On, AI Skin Diagnostics and AI Smart Shade Finder.
The programmes allow consumers to virtually try-on make-up products, assess skin care concerns and find their ideal foundation shade.
“As consumer behaviour shifts towards e-commerce, beauty brands need to embrace the power of innovative AI and AR beauty technology to deliver on the interactive and personalised beauty journey that modern consumers want,” said Alice Chang the CEO of Perfect Corp, the owner of YouCam Makeup.
“Our comprehensive beauty AI and AR services within WeChat mini programmes will allow beauty brands to deliver personalised product recommendations and keep consumers engaged in a new virtually connected way that invites discovery and experimentation.”
YouCam Makeup’s technology has been adopted by a plethora of beauty brands including L’Oréal, Ardell, Eylure and, most recently, Make Up For Ever.
Perfect Corp also said in a statement: “WeChat mini programmes are an increasingly important tool for the beauty brands’ WeChat official accounts to increase brand engagement and deliver personalised shopping experience that modern customers are looking for.”
WeChat was developed by digital service giant Tencent Holdings – chaired by Ma Huateng, who is now China's richest man – in 2011.
It is now one of China's largest social media platforms, hitting one billion monthly active users in January.
