Building work has started on the UK's first public spa concept. The public spa, a joint venture between London's Tower Hamlets Council and GLL (Greenwich Leisure Ltd), is scheduled to open in March 2007 and will cost £1.3m to build.
The project is set to revolutionise the spa market, opening it out to the masses offering affordable spa treatments. Situated at London's Tower Hamlets' Victorian baths, the site will comprise steam room, sauna and relaxation zone as well as four treatment rooms housing treatments from international brands Thalgo, Jane Iredale and Jessica.
Affordable spa treatments have been growing in availability in the last year, with mass cosmetics brand Simple (Accantia) opening a spa in Covent Garden and Unilever's Dove rumoured to be considering a foray into the spa business.
