The Body Shop’s administrator FRP Advisory has said 116 UK stores will remain open as part of its restructuring plans.
Some 75 stores will be shuttered over the next four to six weeks, which follows on from the initial closures of seven stores across London, Kent and Bristol.
Approximately 489 staff will be made redundant during this period.
FRP stated it will support all impacted staff with their claims to the Redundancy Payments Service, a government-backed scheme funded by national insurance contributions.
Tony Wright, Geoff Rowley, and Alastair Massey, joint administrators for The Body Shop, said the reduced store footprint will help the brand “return to financial stability”.
They added that the renewed focus on the brand’s products and online sales channels aim to bring the business back in line with its competitors.
“In taking swift action to right-size The Body Shop UK store portfolio, we have stabilised the business and are providing the best opportunity for this iconic brand to have a long-term, sustainable future,” said Wright.
“The UK business continues to trade in administration, and we remain fully focused on exploring all options to take the business forward.”
