Sales up 8% for 2007 at L'Oréal

L'Oréal has reported an 8% increase in sales in 2007 from €15.8bn to just over €17bn. Total cosmetics sales, discounting exchange-rate factors, rose 8% to €15.9bn. The Cosmetique Active division, including the Vichy and La Roche Posay brands, put on the strongest growth with 2007 sales up 10.8%, followed by the luxury products sector including Lancôme, which grew by 8.4%. Body Shop sales increased by 5.7% to €787m and dermatology sector activity improved by 12.7% to about €387m.

Activity in Eastern Europe expanded at 29.5% and sales in Latin America went up 14.3%. The West European market was said to have returned to growth last year and performance in North America was described as "satisfactory". North American sales went up 4.8% to just over €4bn with a sharp improvement in Q4 of 7.2%. Asian sales improved by 14.3% to €1.5bn after accelerating in fourth quarter by 15.5%.

The group's dermatological products company Galderma posted a rise of 12.7%. Double-digit growth worldwide was sustained by products to treat acne (Differine), psoriasis (Clobex) and sensitive skin (Cetaphil). A new drug-style product developed by Galderma for the treatment of acne, Epiduo, has been approved recently for sale in Europe and Argentina.
