Puig names Jose Manuel Albesa CEO to lead ‘next chapter’

Marc Puig will hand over the reins as CEO to Albesa but remain Executive Chairman of the company, marking a separation of the leadership roles as the Charlotte Tilbury owner embarks on its next phase of growth

Puig has named Jose Manuel Albesa its new CEO, signalling a “new chapter” for the beauty and fashion business.

The move by the Charlotte Tilbury and Byredo owner marks the separation of the CEO and Chairman roles, which were previously held by Marc Puig prior to the appointment.

Marc Puig will remain on as Executive Chairman of the business.

Albesa’s appointment is a “decisive step in the evolution of Puig’s governance that strengthens Puig’s leadership”, the Spain-based company said in a statement.

Albesa and Marc Puig will work together to align the company’s strategic vision and focus on M&A strategy.

Marc Puig will also remain involved in key appointments, and continue to act “as the custodian of the Puig's family culture and values”, read the company statement.

“This is an exciting time in Puig’s evolution, building on very strong foundations and growth to set the platform for the next stage of our development,” said Marc Puig.

“With this important announcement, the Board of Puig opens a new chapter in the company’s governance. 

“The separation of the roles of Executive Chairman and CEO is fully aligned with the highest standards of best practice for listed companies.”

“I have worked closely with Jose Manuel for over 20 years, and I have every confidence that his talent, leadership and vision make him ideally suited to become CEO of Puig. 

“His deep understanding of our brands, our culture and the way we work will be crucial to drive our company forward.

“I remain fully committed to Puig as Executive Chairman and I am looking forward to continuing working with Jose Manuel in this new chapter of our company’s history.”

Albesa takes on the top job from his current role as Puig Deputy CEO, and Beauty and Fashion President.

The long-standing executive has held a number of leadership positions at Puig across brand development, marketing and operations since starting at the company in 1998.

He has also played a central role in the strategic development and international expansion of Puig’s fragrance and fashion portfolio.
