ECJ rules against Italy’s Prestige Cosmetics SpA

Procter & Gamble has won contested rights to use the trademark P&G Prestige Beaute to sell soaps, perfumery, essential oils, cosmetics and hair lotions. Its victory comes at the European Court of Justice (ECJ), beating off opposition from Italy’s Prestige Cosmetics SpA, which had claimed the P&G mark would be confused with its own. The ECJ disagreed, saying there were “clear differences, in particular visual, between the signs.”
