Nail products drop DBP

Published: 4-Oct-2006

Three major nail polish manufacturers have reported that they have started to remove certain chemicals from their products which environmental groups claim are linked to cancer and birth defects. The three companies are Del Laboratories, which makes Sally Hansen, OPI Products and Orly International.

Sally Hansen says it is reformulating all its products to remove dubytyl phthalate (DBP), formaldehyde and toluene, while OPI and Orly are removing DBP but will continue to use toluene. OPI also still uses formaldehyde in some products. Other multinationals including Avon, Estée Lauder, L’Oréal and Revlon had already confirmed that they were removing DBP last year.
