When testing all types of topically applied products, the influence on the skin barrier function must be determined. One of the most important parameters to test skin barrier damages is the TransEpidermalWaterLoss. With the Tewameter®, Courage+Khazaka has developed a powerful tool based on the world’s most widely used open chamber measurement for determining the TEWL without any influences on the skin’s micro climate (pressure, occlusion, temperature).
The latest member of the Tewameter® family is the Tewameter® TM Hex, the successor of the well-established Tewameter® TM 300. 30 sensors inside the hollow cylinder of the probe detect relative humidity and temperature with utmost accuracy and reproducibility. The results in g/h/m2 give valuable information on efficacy and safety for products improving the skin’s barrier function. Sweat studies, patch tests and many other applications are possible with this probe.
The Tewameter® Triple TM 330 T has three probe heads supplying three measurements at the same time. It offers the possibility of measurement of one large area with higher precision and reproducibility or time saving on three areas with different products at the same time and exactly the same ambient conditions.
With its ultra-small measuring chamber (only 2 mm Ø), the Tewameter® TM Nano allows to measure the TEWL on small, or difficult to reach sites, e.g. nails, scalp with hair, lips, etc.
Another member of the Tewameter® family is the Invitro Tewameter® VT 310 which is perfectly suited to fit on a Franz cell. It offers a convenient way to study skin permeability and dermal absorption necessary for safety and efficacy testing.
With the Tewitro® TW 24, the TEWL can be measured on cultured tissue sets in up to 24 wells simultaneously. The use of cultured cells sets for long-term safety tests is a quick and easy method to avoid using animals or volunteers.
