Ethical cosmetics brand Lush has launched an unusual campaign to draw attention to its fight to close the Guantanamo Bay detention centre and give prisoners a fair trial.
Employees in most of the brand’s British stores will be wearing orange knickers this week, with the slogan ‘Fair trial my arse’ emblazoned on the bottom. The idea of the stunt is to highlight the illegal detention and torture of men held in one of the world’s most notorious prisons.
The campaign came about after co-owner Mark Constantine learned of the plight of two prisoners, Sami Al Haj and Binyam Mohamed, currently held at the prison. A new bath ballistic has also been created for the campaign. Guantanamo Garden is coloured orange like the jump suits worn by detainees and is scented with traces of indole, artificial civet, orange flower and jasmine. The ball is topped with a dove and a photo of the two prisoners appears when the bath ball has dissolved.
