The French beauty company is allegedly close to finalising details to acquire the Vitamin A-focused premium UK skin care brand, according to a new report

As rumours continue to circulate about L'Oréal potentially acquiring Medik8, a new report alleges it could buy the UK skin care company for roughly €1bn.

The French beauty giant’s rumoured deal to acquire the private equity-owned Medik8 is allegedly close to being signed and is expected to be announced in the coming days, according to a report by The Financial Times.

However, the publication’s source – which it said is people familiar with the matter – were said to have warned that the timeline could yet slip.

Rumours of the alleged acquisition first started in May and it is thought the deal would ramp up L’Oréal’s expansion into the dermocosmetics category.

Medik8 is a vitamin A-focused premium UK skin care brand that was founded in 2009 by Elliot Isaacs.

The company has invested in the use of retinol alternative retinal (short for retinaldehyde) – which is a part of a group of vitamin A derivatives called retinoids – in its hero franchise, Crystal Retinal.

Crystal Retinal made up 82% of the brand’s retinoid units sold in 2023, Daniel Isaacs, co-founder and Chief Product Officer at Medik8 previously told Cosmetics Business.

Medik8’s global revenues are expected to hit around US$115m globally this year, while sales were up 50% in 2024.

Cosmetics Business has reached out to Medik8 and L’Oréal for comment.
