Kerry Washington has been announced as the new Creative Ambassador for nail brand OPI. This is the second major beauty deal for the US-based actress, who is already a Creative Consultant at Neutrogena.
Washington, known for her roles in films such as Django Unchained, as well as playing the lead role of Olivia Pope in ABC drama Scandal will work with OPI to create a range of nail polishes. OPI Co-founder Suzi Weiss-Fischmann is said to be co-designing the range with the actress.
Washington told WWD: “This is going to be a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to testing out new colours on the red carpet. The fun, for me, is that nail lives in the crossover space between fashion and beauty. I love to play with nail colour on the red carpet and explore new shades.”
The actress also commented that she was a fan of the brand’s existing range with singer Gwen Stefani. She said: “I’m a big fan of Gwen Stefani’s line for OPI. She has done such a great job having her collection represent her – not just with OPI but through everything she’s done. If I can do something similar, I will be very happy.”
Washington has worked with skin care and cosmetics brand Neutrogena since 2013. She also told WWD that she was working with the brand to expand its range of available shades. She said: "I want to increase access to beauty to all women of all ethnicities. Nude looks different, depending on your skin tone and that’s the fashion and beauty world I want to live in, where everyone has the ability to express the beauty that reflects them. I love being able to be an influencer in that space.”
