Increased US presence boosts Symrise sales
Symrise has announced a €45.5m increase in sales to €1.32bn in 2008. The German flavours and fragrances specialist said that sales, which were strongly influenced by strategic acquisition in the US, equated to a local currency increase of 6.5%.
Symrise has announced a €45.5m increase in sales to €1.32bn in 2008. The German flavours and fragrances specialist said that sales, which were strongly influenced by strategic acquisition in the US, equated to a local currency increase of 6.5%.
The company’s growth was largely due to sales in emerging markets, which grew 8% in local currencies and accounted for 39% of total sales in 2008 and sales in the US, which climbed by 25%. Recent acquisitions played a significant role in Symrise’s strong US performance; the company’s Scent & Care division gained US businesses Manheimer Fragrances and Intercontinental Fragrances while The Flavor & Nutrition division acquired the flavour business unit of Chr. Hansen.
In its outlook for 2009, Symrise states that it expects the first half of the year to be weaker than that of the same period 2008. But ceo Gerold Linzbach believes that due to the company’s recent strategic decisions, Symrise is “well positioned to grow faster that the market in 2009 as well”.
