Giorgio Armani, fashion designer and founder of the Armani Group, has died aged 91.
The Armani Group confirmed the news in a statement today (4 September) that the Italian-born designer passed away at home in Milan surrounded by loved ones.
“With infinite sorrow, the Armani Group announces the passing of its creator, founder and tireless driving force: Giorgio Armani,” the maison shared in a statement on Instagram.
Under his leadership, the Armani Group has built a number of brands, including Emporio Armani, A|X Armani Exchange and Armani Privé.
Giorgio Armani joined forces with L’Oréal Group in 1988 to license beauty products under the brand name, developing a line of make-up, skin care and fragrance inspired by the vision of the late designer.
He built a fashion and beauty empire worth more than £10bn.
Armani Group’s statement continued: “Il Signor Armani, as he was always respectfully and admiringly called by employees and collaborators, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones.
“Indefatigable to the end, he worked until his final days, dedicating himself to the company, the collections, and the many ongoing and future projects.”
Armani’s dedication to his brand and his people never went unnoticed, as the statement continued: “In this company, we have always felt like part of a family.
“Today, with deep emotion, we feel the void left by the one who founded and nurtured this family with vision, passion, and dedication.
“But it is precisely in his spirit that we, the employees and the family members who have worked alongside Mr. Armani, commit to protecting what he built and to carrying his company forward in his memory, with respect, responsibility and love.”
