The winner will receive a $10,000 tuition grant and the chance to be featured on Schick Intuition packaging in Dollar General stores

Edgewell Personal Care Company has partnered with the Dollar General Literacy Foundation – a provider of grant programmes, founded by the US store chain – to support aspiring artists.

The Emerging Artist Contest encourages students to enter an original piece of artwork to be in with a chance of winning a US$10,000 tuition scholarship.

The winner will also see their design featured on packaging for Edgewell-owned women’s shaving brand Schick Intuition at Dollar General stores across the US.

Artist and author Reyna Noriega will serve as a judge.

Noriega is best known for her vibrant, joyful depictions of marginalised peoples,

“We are thrilled to launch a programme that reflects the core of our purpose and values so closely and that will have a meaningful impact on the winner's future ambitions, and we're glad to partner with the Dollar General Literacy Foundation in these efforts,” said Rod Little, CEO of Edgewell Personal Care.

The inaugural programme is open for entries at emergingartistproject.com until 28 August 2023.

Entrants are asked to create an 8.5 x 11 inch piece of artwork, in any media, around the theme ‘what makes you feel good about yourself?’ and provide an artist’s statement in under 150 words explaining their design.

Schick Intuition forms part of Edgewell’s shaving brands portfolio, which also incorporates Schick, Wilkinson Sword and Billie.

The Emerging Artist Contest follows Schick Intuition’s stablemate Billie’s launch of a No Worries If Not board game, dubbed an “impossible game” that no woman can win.

Billie, which likewise specialises in razors and body care products, said the game was based on the “real-life setbacks” and “pitfalls of daily life” as a woman.
