Male grooming brand Bulldog Skincare is upping its sustainability game with a new recycling scheme for its hard-to-recycle products.
The brand, known for its bamboo razors and carbon neutrality credentials, has entered a new partnership with recycling specialists First Mile, allowing customers to give new life to their used razor blades and white skin care tubes.
All tubes returned via the scheme will be recycled into new packs using microwave pyrolysis, which breaks down the plastic tubes into an oil; the oil is then refined to make new plastic pellets and eventually new Bulldog skin care packs.
Meanwhile, razor blades will be recycled into renewable energy and used to power homes and businesses.
In keeping with the Edgewell-owned company’s eco-friendly ethos, the recycling process is also carbon neutral.
To return their used products, customers can post their used razors and tubes to ‘Freepost First Mile – Bulldog’ free of charge.
Speaking about its latest venture, Caroline Mallet, Bulldog’s General Manager, said that Bulldog’s purpose is to make recycling easier and more straightforward for its customers.

“We want to make it as easy as possible for our customers to recycle their Bulldog products in the most effective way,” she said.
“That’s why we have partnered with First Mile – the UK’s leading recycling and sustainability company. If consumers are ever confused or unsure of what to do with their Bulldog tubes or blades, they can simply send them back to us and we’ll do the rest.”
Bulldog is the first cosmetics brand to partner with the recycling firm, having also teamed up with Hunter Boots, Cup Print and baby food brand Piccolo.
The brand, founded by Simon Duffy, is renowned within the industry for pushing boundaries in sustainability.
In 2018, the brand entered the shaving market with its reusable bamboo razor, to cut down on plastic, and followed up with a glass razor made from up to 70% recycled beer bottles in 2020.

Bulldog has also set an example for the male grooming category with its take-back scheme in partnership with TerraCycle-owned company Loop.
The brand, along with Nivea, Ren, Love Beauty and Planet and Molton Brown, was among the first companies to join the service, which allows shoppers to return their products to be cleaned by Loop and refilled by the manufacturer.
Meanwhile, in 2019, Bulldog became the first international skin care brand with Leaping Bunny certification to sell in mainland China.
