Ex-Gucci boss Stefano Cantino has been named Co-CEO of Dolce & Gabbana (D&G) just days after it was revealed that the luxury fashion and beauty brand’s co-founder Stefano Gabbana has stepped down as Chairman

Stefano Cantino has been appointed Co-CEO of Dolce & Gabbana (D&G) amid a big leadership shake-up at the Italian fashion house.

Cantino will work alongside CEO Alfonso Dolce, who has also been named Chairman of the company.

It comes days after D&G co-founder Stefano Gabbana stepped down as Chairman.

Gabbana will remain in his creative role with the luxury fashion and beauty giant, which he founded with Domenico Dolce in 1985.

Alfonso Dolce – brother of Domenico – replaced Gabbana in the role of Chairman from 1 January, however the shake-up was not confirmed by D&G until 10 April.

“As part of a natural evolution of its organisational structure and governance, the Dolce & Gabbana group confirms that Stefano Gabbana has tendered his resignation, effective as of 1 January 2026, from his positions within Dolce & Gabbana Holding Srl, Dolce & Gabbana Trademarks Srl, and Dolce & Gabbana Srl,” said D&G in a company statement.

“These resignations have no impact whatsoever on the creative activities carried out by Stefano Gabbana on behalf of the group.”

Responding to Bloomberg reporting that it is seeking to refinance €450m of debt, D&G said in the statement: “With regard to the debt position, the group has no statement to make at this time, as negotiations with the banks are still ongoing.”

Cantino’s appointment as co-CEO “follows D&G’s growth trajectory, driven by the evolution of its organisational model from a fashion brand to a lifestyle company”, said D&G in a separate company statement.

He was previously at Kering-owned Gucci, where he was Deputy CEO from May 2024, before being elevated to CEO in October the same year.

Before Gucci, Cantino also spent five years at Louis Vuitton, and 20 years at Prada Group in a number of communications, marketing and commercial roles.

“I am pleased to have Stefano Cantino by my side in this new phase of growth and development of D&G,” said Dolce.
