APDN recommended a multi-layered security approach that protects the entire supply chain, including the packaging around the product and the product itself.
The company specialises in botanically derived SigNature DNA markers, which can be applied to packaging materials such as inks, coatings, laminates, adhesives and substrates. “This technology can be used to trace and audit the movement of goods from inception to packaging, shipping and ultimately to the retail consumer,” said MeiLin Wan, APDN Director of Project Management.
At the meeting APDN discussed the economic impact and consequences of unsecured packaging, emphasising that the trade in counterfeit products accounted for 7%-10% of all trade globally.
The IOPP summit took place in Chicago from 19-20 May.
