The CL Tech biomedical enterprise based at Ales in southern France has launched a range of cosmetics which do not contain preservative agents.
The Dermatherm products are based on a patented technology which CL Tech has developed through adapting the ultra-high-temperature (UHT) system - widely in use in the food industry - to cosmetics. The company's director-general, Didier Lopez, said the aim was to remove every element from the products which was not useful and necessary, including any element which could trigger allergic reactions.
At the start two components could not be removed - water and preservative agents. An agreement with the Fumades spa in the Gard region provided a highly mineralised water while the adaptation of the UHT technology removed the need for preservatives. CL Tech is now pursuing a number of objectives including the transfer of the patented technology with formulations for the major cosmetics groups. Negotiations are underway internationally. The company reported sales of €400,000 in 2008 and this is expected to rise to €2.2 million in 2009 and to €10 million in the longer term.
