Chanel has named actress Whitney Peak as its first black fragrance ambassador.
The Gossip Girl reboot and Hocus Pocus 2 star is the new face of the French fashion house’s Coco Mademoiselle fragrance.
Peak is already a US brand ambassador and featured in Chanel’s 2022 handbag campaign.
The 20-year-old follows in the footsteps of supermodel Kate Moss and actress Keira Knightley, who both served as ambassadors for the fragrance.
“Whitney’s joy, spirit and energy are contagious,” said a Chanel spokesperson.
“She is the embodiment of today’s youth whose curiosity, confidence in life, appetite for experiences and lack of preconceptions echo the temperament of the young Coco Chanel.
“She is the incarnation of Coco Mademoiselle’s original personality.
“A young woman who moves towards her destiny to become who she truly is and wants to be.”
Chanel is also adding a complementary product, Coco Mademoiselle Hair Perfume, to the line on 22 February.
The new Coco Mademoiselle campaign will run from March 2023.
Peak commented: “I never dreamed I would get the attention of such a reputable house, let alone the pleasure of working with and representing them.
“I am looking forward to showing how versatile and timeless Chanel is.”
Peak is not the only star to be tapped by a big fragrance house recently.
Euphoria star Hunter Schafer is the new face of Mugler’s Angel fragrance line.
She will front the brand's new Angel Elixir EDP, which launches in March.
American model Emily Ratajkowski has been named the face of Viktor and Rolf’s Flowerbomb fragrance too.
