AP takes Maitresse
Six years after the launch of its signature scent, Agent Provocateur has launched a new fragrance - Maîtresse - and the company says its ultimate goal is to develop a house of fragrances.
“If Agent Provocateur was all about seduction, Maîtresse is all about addiction,” says Agent Provocateur co-founder, Jo Corre.
Agent Provocateur launched its signature modern chypre fragrance against the fresh, androgynous trends of six years ago and feels it is being similarly bold with Maîtresse, which is described as a modern floral aldehyde.
Rather than using the fatty aldehydes used to create the powderiness of classics such as Chanel No5 and Rive Gauche, perfumers at fragrance house CPL have used modern aldehydes such as cyclamen aldehyde, said to be quite different technically. “The aldehydes have been carefully positioned throughout the fragrance and they enhance the personality of the raw materials,” says Azzi Glasser, creative consultant for the fragrance.
The notes themselves include white lotus and ylang ylang at the top with a heart of osmanthus flower, jasmin sambac and orris bud and a base of white suede musk, iso E super and hot amber oils.
The egg-shaped bottle of the original scent has been used again but this time it is a golden egg. The glass beneath is red, as revealed by the laser cutting into the metallization to spell out the name of the fragrance and depict the Maîtresse woman facing away from the viewer. The neck of the bottle is secured by a gold clip tied with a red leather ribbon. The outer box is also gold with a peephole cutaway revealing a glimpse of the bottle.
