Solbar Plant Extracts launches cosmeceuticals products, encouraged by predictions of growth

Solbar Plant Extracts is marking the start of 2008 with new introductions to the global cosmeceuticals market, encouraged by widespread predictions of growth for the sector.

Solbar’s range of Solgen natural soy isoflavone extracts, designed for both topical and inside out applications, are phytoestrogens structurally and functionally similar to estrogen. Clinical research has shown that these can act as age-defying ingredients, not only helping in various conditions from hot flushes to osteoporosis, but also to help recover and reinforce skin elasticity, and improve antioxidant activity.

Phytoestrogens have also demonstrated synergistic benefits when used in conjunction with other ingredients; a factor Solbar sees as significant in the modern cosmetics industry. "We believe the age of single ingredients as an end to all problems is past, with responsible suppliers discovering the benefits of comprehensive synergistic properties of multiple actives,” commented Gary Brenner, Solbar's vp of marketing and development. “Our focus on cosmeceuticals applications will take this approach into consideration.”

The global cosmeceuticals market is expected to see strong growth in the future. A study by Freedonia forecasts annual growth of 8.5% in the US over the next two years and Datamonitor reported in 2007 that the European cosmeceutical market will see a compound annual growth rate of 4.8% between 2004 and 2009, with its value skyrocketing from $929m to $4.4bn over the same period.
