Shiseido has announced plans to open a new research and distribution hub in Osaka, Japan, that will cost the company ¥40bn.
Shiseido Osaka Factory will be located in Ibaraki, Osaka and the company’s existing factory’s production facilities will be relocated to the same area. The new 15,000sqm facility will have a production capacity of 1.5 times the current factory. It will be predominantly used to make approximately 100 million skin care products per year in the mid-to-high price bracket. In the same location, Shiseido will also open a new 13,000sqm flagship distribution base, tentatively called Shiseido Kansai Integration Center.
Construction on the whole site will begin in 2018, with operations commencing in 2020, according to the plan set out. The new base’s main aim is to promote innovation across the supply chain and provide a steady supply of skin care products to market.
