Celebrity hairdresser Sam McKnight is not happy – the latest product in his eponymous hair care range does not look quite right.

Against the backdrop of his home in London, UK, lies a lush and leafy garden where the renowned hair stylist grows his own vegetables and bee-friendly plants.

These personal efforts to help the environment have naturally translated to the hair care brand he founded in 2017, Hair by Sam McKnight.

The latest sustainable innovation McKnight has introduced makes the business one of the first to make fully biodegradable pipette droppers a part of its packaging.

Despite the milestone – and setting a standard for the rest of the beauty industry along the way – McKnight is not afraid to admit he has had to compromise.

“I knew it was a risk, without a doubt, and I am not 100% happy with the colour,” he says with surprising frankness.

“But it is something we can start, and we can work on, and maybe the next one will be a better colour.

“There is compromise, but that is the most compromise I am prepared to make.”

While major players in the beauty industry might spin up this step forward, McKnight is very honest about the challenges he faces making his hair care business more sustainable.
