P&G refutes Chinese price hike rumours

Procter & Gamble has refuted claims that it is to raise product prices in China. P&G’s China spokesman Zhang Qunxiang has denied rumours of an immediate product price increase, in spite of a predicted $2bn rise in the company’s manufacturing costs for this year.

According to China Knowledge Press, P&G’s China office has received no instruction from headquarters about local product price rises, neither how much they will increase by, nor when.

P&G has raised prices by 4% to 8% in the past 18 months and recent newspaper reports have indicated that retailers could pay P&G up to 16% more for products in the US including hair care, bar soaps and shaving products from September.
