A new report by beauty sustainability authority re-sources highlights key developments in green packaging

Educating industry teams and beauty consumers about sustainability will play a vital role in the green packaging arena, according to a new report by re-sources.

Sustainable Packaging Beauty Trends 2022 likewise flagged accessible beauty, offering easy-to-open packs for less mobile consumers, as a growing area under the sustainability umbrella.

These were included alongside more established issues including materials innovation, refills and recycle-ready designs for waste management.

re-sources, which helps beauty brand marketers decipher sustainability, explained that entertainment via social media, quizzes, etc, could be helpful as a method of educating both those within and outside of the industry, adding that blockchain and traceable information could help drive home points.

The report highlighted transparency tools like provenance.org and brand Bybi Beauty’s dropdown list – which provides information on how to recycle – as examples of good practice.

Meanwhile, on the accessible beauty front, re-sources gave the examples of the lid prototype from P&G’s Olay, developed both with and for people with disabilities, and Degree/Sure (Unilever’s) new deodorant pack, including an easy-grip shape, larger roll-on applicator for one-swipe use and a magnetic closure.
