Avon opens new R&D centre in Shanghai

Chinese site is largest outside of US for the company


Direct selling giant Avon has opened a new state-of-the-art R&D centre in Shanghai, located in Jinqiao, and covering 40,000 square feet.

Ceo and chairmain, Andrea Jung, said of the opening: “This new centre reflects our continued commitment to the Chinese market which remains a significant long term growth opportunity for the company.

“Our expanded R&D presence in China brings us closer to consumers here, ensuring that we leverage our world class scientific talent to effectively meeting the needs of Chinese women.”

The building spans six floors and incorporates many green principles including waste recycling and energy efficient lighting systems. The site will focus on developing Avon’s beauty products, including skin care, colour cosmetics and hair care lines.

Avon chief scientific officer, Xiaochun Luo, said: “The Shanghai R&D centre allows us to build on our legacy of offering Chinese women first to market, breakthrough beauty technologies including our highly successful ANEW anti-ageing skin care line and Avon colour cosmetics.

“It is also a critical tool in helping us build upon our innovation leadership position in China and across the region.”
