Despite an impressive number of preservatives permitted in Annex V very few are without criticism, real or imagined.
At in-cosmetics Global 2017, Nirmal Koshti of Galaxy Surfactants summed up the situation by stating that consumers expect preservatives to be free from parabens, formaldehyde releasers, halogenated chemicals, isothiazolinones and phenolic/alcoholic/glycolic molecules, so only organic acids, dehydroacetic acid, benzyl alcohol and phenoxyethanol are left.
