Dutch ingredient supplier DSM has been awarded top marks for its seventh annual Triple P Report 2008 (People, Planet, Profit). The report has achieved an A+ rating according to the guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).
During 2008 the company says it continued to implement its sustainability strategy across four areas – climate and energy, health and wellness, functionality and performance, and emerging economies. It says its 2010 emission targets on climate and energy have already been achieved, reducing its worldwide greenhouse gas emissions by more than 30%.
On health and wellness, it has extended its battle against Hidden Hunger in partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), as well as working towards tacking iron deficiency and malaria with the continued distribution of MixMe sachets, which are supplied to people in Nepal, Kenya and Bangladesh.
“The current economic climate should not divert our attention from the long term issues confronting our world, which involve securing sustainable energy supplies, combating climate change and providing balanced food supplies and health for the globe’s entire population,” said Jan Zuidam, deputy chairman of the DSM Managing Board. “Our Triple P report 2008 shows we are on the right track, truly committed and well positioned to address these challenges.”
