Chanel’s investment in sustainable packaging paid off at the Formes de Luxe Awards yesterday.
The luxury brand worked with Knoll Packaging to reinvent its packaging using a 100% Knoll Ecoform pulp clamshell to mark the 100th anniversary of its iconic No5 perfume.
Scooping an award at the luxury packaging event, Knoll’s President and CEO, Jeremy Cohen, reflected on the 18-month long project.
“The mono-material Knoll Ecoform pulp packaging for Chanel is a first-of-its kind for the luxury packaging industry,” he said.
“This project, which took over 18 months to develop, is not only an engineering feat, but also redefines the benchmark for sustainable luxury packaging.
“Chanel trusted our global team at Knoll to bring this vision to life, and it has completely disrupted the market.
“We anticipate our customers will follow in these footsteps as we continue to push the whole industry forward to achieve this new standard of sustainable packaging.”
The clamshell is made of FSC-certified bamboo and bagasse (waste from sugarcane), while the package itself is biodegradable and recyclable.
