Cosmeceuticals, fragrance, naturals vs synthetics and green chemistry all evoke strong, even passionate feelings among many people working in the cosmetics industry. There’s a lot to be said on each subject, which is why the Society of Cosmetic Scientists (SCS) has invited experts with diverse opinions on these topics to present at its 2009 cosmetic science symposium, Cosmetic Controversies – seeing the whole picture.
Each of the four sessions will open with a 45 minute keynote lecture from an industry expert who will give a balanced impartial presentation regarding the science surrounding the topic of discussion, followed by critical analysis of the topic by experts from both academic and commercial sectors with a direct interest in the area. Two shorter presentations provide an opportunity for the presenter to deliver their opinion, which may of course conflict with the other presentations but will always be supported by scientific data. Each session will conclude with a panel discussion involving all three presenters, giving delegates the opportunity to challenge and probe further or share their own experiences.
And if you have more to say, the event kicks off on a Sunday evening with a Soapbox session open to all comers. Have your five minutes up there on a controversial topic of your own choosing – and don’t expect your audience to be backwards in coming forwards.
Whatever happens the SCS is promising lively debate.
The event runs from 17-19 May at Belton Woods Hotel near Grantham in the UK. Contact the SCS for more information.
