Celebrating 125th anniversary with Avon Voices competition

The X-Factor effect is about to make its mark on the beauty industry, with Avon Products announcing that it is to celebrate its 125th anniversary by launching a global online singing talent search for women and song writing competition for budding musicians of any gender. The goal of the Avon Voices talent search, says the direct selling giant, is to find two talented singers – one an Avon representative – who may have the opportunity to record a professionally produced album.

From now until 13 February 2011, women from more than 60 countries – including Avon’s 6.2 million independent sales representatives – can participate by visiting www.avonvoices.com where they can select a song and upload a submission video. Beginning 22 April 2011, the public may vote for their favourite contenders; the search will be narrowed down four times by a combination of online public voting and judges scores. Judges include Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie; songwriter Diane Warren; singer/songwriter Natasha Bedingfield; Lea Salonga, Filipina singer and actress; Russian star Valeriya; Australian recording artist Delta Goodrem; Brazilian pop star Ivete Sangalo; female percussionist Sheila E; Grammy award winning singer/composer and music producer David Pack; and Colombian singer Maia.

Aspiring composers, male or female, can enter the songwriting competition by submitting a digital file and lyric sheet via the website between 20 May and 1 July 2011. Avon says it is looking for an original song that inspires or shares hope and optimism with the world.

Music will be available to download throughout the year in selected countries with a percentage of the proceeds going to the Avon Foundation for Women’s global campaign to end violence against women and girls.
