A study of 2,000 women by health and wellbeing brand Beurer UK found that women put on their make-up at 8am and spend a surprisingly short 11 minutes applying it. The average woman then removes it at 8.47pm, although a quarter of women don’t take their make-up off until gone 10.30pm. 58% of those polled admitted to leaving their make-up on all evening if they know that guests might pop in, while 38% are so reluctant to take it off they admitted to frequently going to bed with all their make-up intact.
Nearly one in five women said they would refuse to open the front door if they didn’t have a face full of make-up and 10% said the more make-up they have on, the better they feel.
Well over half of the women studied said they feel much less confident when completely bare faced, and one in two said they dreaded anyone seeing them without make-up, despite the fact that over a quarter said their partners preferred them au natural.
The research discovered that the average women will spend £121 on cosmetics in a typical year and has around 13 items in her make-up bag, and 38% said their make-up bag was crammed full of the same products that they had been using for years.
Robert Slade, Sales and Marketing Director of Beurer UK, said: “This research shows that many women spend a large part of their time with make-up on. It’s clear that many women do depend on cosmetics to make themselves look and feel better. But whilst it can give an instant boost, it is imperative that make-up lovers care for their skin.
