Texture is of vital importance to the cosmetic industry. Before application the user will already be making conclusions on the products effectiveness from the first touch, before the actives have had a chance to work or any volatiles have dried off.
How a product applies is also of critical importance to how the product performs. A thicker conditioner may be perceived as more conditioning, while a sticky lipgloss longer wearing. Of all the cosmetic sectors the hair styling sector has arguably had the most opportunity to play with the texture of products, creating a array an of pastes, creams, sprays, clays and pomades.
For 2014 the Cornelius Formulations team have been looking at unusual textures that can be created with the materials of our portfolio, across all market applications (colour, skin, hair, wash). Cornelius Laboratory Manager Ella Ceraulo said: "We have attempted to venture outside the usual scope of a particular area to create something unusual and unexpected while still being functional. Function is of the highest importance in all Cornelius formulations so where possible the company has tried to link the texture to an action which delivers a benefit for the consumer. For example, the Cream to Oil Anti-cellulite rub, turns oily after sufficient rubbing which indicates sufficient pressure is being applied."
Jennifer Hermitage, Cornelius Development Chemist, highlights below some of the most interesting products in the latest Innovation Concept "Textures In Action". She commented: "This is just the beginning of our Textures In Action concept. Much more is being developed as we speak."
