A worrying 40% of British consumers have ranked their quality of sleep as either ‘bad’ or ‘terrible’, according to a new survey by This Works.
The beauty brand, best known for its sleep-promoting pillow sprays, questioned 1,436 people in August and found that poor sleep was a growing concern for many.
More than half of respondents reported having ‘more broken sleep’ during lockdown (53%) and feeling ‘more tired during the day’ (52%), while 66% said lockdown had heightened feelings of anxiety.
Worrying about family and friends with (or potentially catching) Covid-19 caused 57% of those surveyed to lose sleep.
Meanwhile, work (49%), finances (32%) and politics (17%) were cited as further causes of concern.
Feelings of frustration were found to have increased for 42% of those questioned, as well loneliness (26%) and depression (30%).
In response to these findings, This Works created a programme of activities which it says will help to get Britain back to sleep.
The School of Sleep, which launches 7 September, will include a digital syllabus, designed by sleep experts and accessible to all via the @thisworks Instagram page, to improve sleep hygiene and wellness.
This Works has also pledged to give away 5,000 units of its Deep Sleep Pillow Spray to help those who need to get their sleeping patterns back on track; launching via Instagram (also on 7 September), followers will be able to nominate a friend or family member who they think needs a good night’s sleep.
The first 5,000 nominated will receive a full-sized bottle of the spray, which contains an aromatherapeutic blend of lavender, chamomile and vetiver.
