Popular indie nail polish brand Rescue Beauty Lounge has announced that it is to close.

In a statement written on the brand’s blog, Founder Ji Baek said: “I’ve decided to move forward to my unknown next chapter. I am shutting down the doors of RBL. Please know that this was a difficult decision.”

Baek founded the brand 17 years ago and has built a solid following of beauty fans. She said that Rescue Beauty “has been the centre of my world since I was 28 years old”. The brand has a wide range of “five free” nail polishes made without Dibutyl, Phthalate, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde resin and Toluene. It's products are also all cruelty-free.

However, in the past year, Baek has reconsidered her career. On social media, she reports that she has returned to education is looking to focus on this in the coming years. In her blog post, she said: “I have used this year to reflect on my past and what it all really means.”

Baek told Refinery29 that she also felt the nail polish market had become oversaturated in recent years. She said: "Who doesn't have a nail polish line?"

The brand is now selling off its remaining stock and has promised a series of discounts before it stops trading. The sale has yet to start but the company said on social media that it was “working around the clock” to start the process.

Rescue Beauty will not be restocking any unavailable products ahead of its closure. Baek says the company is due to leave its studio at some point this month, bringing the brand and its website to a close.

Customers with gift vouchers are advised to use them before that date. Baek concluded with a message to her followers. She said: “I love you all for being part of RBL and my life. This has been the best ride ever and thank you all so much for everything.”
