Here’s why the hottest new beauty drops are pebble shaped

Chanel, Dior and Dolce & Gabbana have all embraced ‘pebble’ packs. So why are the biggest beauty brands smoothing their edges?

Pebble-shaped beauty packs are everywhere in 2024. From luxury fashion maisons to ‘brat’ disruptors like Glow Hub, brands of all kinds are choosing to go smooth and tactile for their latest launches.

In June, Chanel launched its Chanel Limited Edition N°5 L’Eau Drop, moving for the first time away from the fragrance’s iconic apothecary bottle. Instead, the collector’s bottle is, in the brand’s own words, “small, oval and transparent, resembling a pebble”.

Chanel’s Head of Packaging and Graphic Design Creation, Sylvie Legastelois, tells Cosmetics Business that the bottle’s design “is inspired by the drop of N°5 perfume that Marilyn Monroe wore to sleep”.
