Superdrug debuts virtual mirror
In-store technology allows colour cosmetic experimentation
A.S Watson-owned personal care retailer Superdrug has installed virtual mirror technology in two of its stores in the UK. The mirrors, which were introduced into Superdrug outlets in Westfield, London and Meadowhall, Sheffield, allow customers to photograph themselves with an inbuilt camera before using the touch screen to ‘apply’ cosmetics and experiment with colours and strength of shades.
Users can select a product from the stand and scan it, which allows the computer to apply the product to the image; the system, which Superdrug says is free of charge, recognises the nuances of skin tone allowing the customer to see exactly how the colour they’ve chosen will look on their skin.
The images may then be emailed to the customer’s personal account, Facebook or Twitter pages, giving them a record of the products they’ve used to create the look.
