Superdrug has opened its largest store in the UK’s North West as it continues to expand its bricks-and-mortar retail footprint.

The health and beauty retailer’s new shop at Manchester’s Trafford Centre has created 20 jobs, highlighting the company’s “commitment to investment in the region”.

It is part of the retailer’s plans to open 25 “bigger and better stores” in the UK this year, which offer an “enhanced” physical shopping experience.

The new 8,095sqft Manchester store includes an extensive fragrance counter and Beauty Studio area, where customers can access “professional treatments at affordable prices”.

It comprises two nail bars, as well as eyebrow threading and ear piercing services.

Superdrug recently reported double-digit sales growth for FY 2022 thanks to the popularity of its own budget beauty ranges.

“With a wide range of popular health and beauty brands, a luxury fragrance counter and professional Beauty Studio, we are confident that our customers will love and welcome the new store,” said Nigel Duxbury, Property Director at Superdrug.

Simon Layton, Centre Director at Trafford Centre, is “delighted” the retailer has invested in the unit.

“Superdrug is a much-loved high street giant and extremely popular with our customers,” he commented.

“We are sure visitors will be impressed by the stunning, new-look store and wowed by the impressive range of health and beauty brands on offer.”

The Perfume Shop has also just opened a new and improved experiential store in Manchester at shopping destination, The Arndale Centre.

Superdrug’s investment in bricks-and-mortar comes at a time when rival Boots is planning to close 300 stores over the next 12 months.

The health and beauty company will reduce its branch numbers from 2,200 to 1,900 as part of a wider "transformation plan" to "consolidate" the business.
