Gong Yoo is the second brand ambassador for the Asia-Pacific market, after South Korean actor Hyun Bin was appointed to represent the region in 2021

Gong Yoo, the star of the hit Korean Netflix drama Squid Game, has been appointed as Tom Ford Beauty’s ambassador for the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.

He will work with the Estée Lauder-owned company on a series of campaigns, starting in August by representing the brand's White Suede fragrance, Fashion Network reports.

Yoo is the second brand ambassador for the APAC market, following on from South Korean actor Hyun Bin’s appointment last year.

“Introducing Gong Yoo, the new TOM FORD BEAUTY Attaché,” the brand wrote in a post on its Instagram.

Yoo has been working in the film industry for nearly 20 years.

His standout roles include playing the lead actor in the horror action thriller Train to Busan, as well as 2021’s sci-fi epic The Silent Sea.

Another notable appearance has been in Squid Game, an action thriller inspired in part by the battle royale genre of films.

The nine-episode series exploded in popularity after its launch in September 2021, amassing over 140 million views according to Netflix.

The plot revolves around a contest which sees 456 participants, who are struggling financially, competing in a series of games to win 45.6 billion South Korean Won.

The trials have a deadly twist, however, and put the contestants at the real risk of death throughout the series.

Yoo acts as a salesman who recruits participants for the contest.
